Day 97 Is There A Name For Walking Addiction?

I googled it but couldn't find out if there is a name for an addiction to walking. I seriously feel as though I may be getting there. I got two miles before work, two miles at lunch and was going to go for two miles after dinner but my hamstrings are telling me that they may well have had enough of all that! I have had sore hamstrings and butt muscles since the hike Saturday. I just can't sit down long enough to let them recover I guess. I take Fridays off, so that may help. I may just walk at 1/2 speed tomorrow morning instead of going all out. I got 5 miles in today and that should get me far enough ahead for a slow day right?

So I was thinking while doing my morning walking today and I suddenly recalled the first day of this journey and all the feelings I had. I was hopeful, I was scared, I was nervous, I was excited. My mind was going a million miles an hour and I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach that this blog thing, the tracking of calories, the open and honest reporting of the tangible and intangible factors in my dieting and exercising, this would be the formula that got me where I wanted to be health wise. I recall the first couple of days being a cross between exhilarating and scary. I remember being upset with myself for not getting the exercise part right away. Man those were the days. Not knowing what the future held. All things were possible. Now I am on track and I know how things are going to be. Wow, nice feeling.

  1. Nice post Shane. I remember feeling all those same things when I first started. I remember the first week feeling like it took forever because I just couldnt wait to see how well I had done! The blog thing has really helped me immensely.

  2. This is bizarre the comparisons you and I have. I have always been a jogger and sometimes runner when I really stuck it out but at my age and starting on my program I started walking. My goal was to get to running but I have to tell you I am hooked! I kind of looked down on "walkers" before, shame on me. Now I am a proud country walker and looooving it!

  4. I can't say I'm addicted, but my dog is. It's hard for me to say no to her.

  5. You, a walking addiction. Me, a biking addiction. I was not able to ride the last two days because of work. I was DYING to get back on, which I did today and another 12 miles. So, I know just what that addiction is like. It is SUCH a great feeling to want to exercise; want to get out; what to improve our health and LOVE our new bodies. Way to go, Shane, Buddy!

  6. You are a walking machine! I'm especially impressed with the two miles at lunch. That rocks. I'm going to do that tomorrow at work on my lunch hour and my boss can lump it if he doesn't like it!

  7. WOW! You must be so happy. I need to get back to regular/planned walking. I have never been a runner or had any desire to do it- same with regular biking- but walking can be fun. Good for you.

  8. I usually try to walk on my lunch break too. After I eat, I usually only have about 10 mins, but I make those 10 mins count. On days when it is rainy, I really miss my walking.
