Day 83 A One Eighty That is Kinda Wierd, but Not Bad

Happy Hump Day!! I am ready for this week to come to its end. I have a lot of things going on and I need this Sunday to get my chill on since it is the first chance I will have between now and then. I don't think I have talked about it but I am taking the LSAT this weekend and I have to do some prep for it, then take my whole Saturday to take the test. Come Sunday, I am gonna be ready for a 5k!

Alon that same vein I have a weird story. I have been having some dead leg syndrome lately but I just push through and get my walks in. Well Tuesday, I seriously could not finish all 6 laps at full speed. I wound up letting up on laps 5 and 6. Then today, I was on lap 5 of 7 when I thought for sure my calf was gonna cramp up and i was gonna make a spectacle of myself right there! Now, the seemingly smart thing to do would be to take a day off, let the legs rest. So, why won't I? I did toy with the idea today, it made me a little anxious for some reason. I couldn't NOT walk. So one thing I have learned is that planning is a key for me. I think I am gonna plan a day off from walking. I may even take Saturday off for convenience puposes so that I can run my laps in Sunday's 5k. I am thinking of trying to jog a whole mile this Sunday just to see if it is possible for me.

I am gonna get off here and see about making it to bed for a good nights sleep. I am going to take precautions to be get ready for Saturday morning!

  1. Does your foot get pin and needles and then go numb?
That's what mine did and i found out i had an almost totally blocked artery and had to have stents put in.
Not trying to scare you but maybe get it checked out?

  4. Good luck. I have recently discovered your uplifting blog. You are such a positive person and setting a good example for other bloggers and your daughter. How cool is it to be applying to law school later in life; I am starting a new career too and I'm almost old enough to be on Medicare. Life is good!

  6. Shane, take your rest days. A year ago I was working on running. I insisted on running every day, and I really jacked up my legs. It took a long time to even walk properly.
I loved so much that I was a "runner" I did not take care of myself properly and it hurt me in the long run.
Building up gradually and resting is key.

  7. Hey Shane...I can really relate to you when you talk about planning being key. You feel like you're being a slacker if you don't walk. But if a day off is part of your plan in order to rest your body, that's a whole 'nuther story. Make a plan and give yourself permission to rest. That's the very best way you can love yourself. ;-)

I'll be praying tomorrow that you are able to get a really good and peaceful night's sleep in preparation for the LSAT. Can't wait to hear how it goes!

  9. Good luck on the LSAT! As for the leg...can you spend a day of strength training, situps, squats, etc, to try to take it easier on the leg?

  11. Good luck on your busy week Shane! I am sure you will do well at everything you have planned!

As for jogging the mile... let me just tell you that when you accomplish that for the first time, regardless of if it is now or whenever, you will have such a great accomplished, proud feeling of yourself! I cant wait to read that post.

A quick thing I learned from a fellow blogger: I was always wondering why I can run a few miles at a time but the first mile or 1/2 mile seems to always be so tough. She told me that even marathon runners say the first mile is the toughest! But, you will reach a point where it isnt that bad and you will shock yourself. I did!

I agree to make sure you are hydrated.

    Good luck this weekend.

  12. Shane, I think taking a day off to rest your leg is a good idea. If it keeps up, have it checked out.

Mostly I would like to say: good luck on the LSAT. I am sure you will be very well prepared. Stay calm; answer the easy items first and then go back to the tougher ones. Those were my strategies when I took the GRE in my subject fields a while back. It worked well for me. Stay calm. You CAN and will rock the LSAT!! Michele

  13. Shane, sending good vibes your way for the LSAT. I worked in law for a few years and I know the LSAT is very difficult.

If it's leg cramps bothering you, be sure to stay hydrated. Husband has them and he drinks some Gatorade every day (low sugar kind). I drink a little of it, too.
